🇬🇧 Yesterday I assembled the remaining two g

🇬🇧 Yesterday I assembled the remaining two gear boxes and motors into the hub of #WinDIY_2 . With these the angle of attack of the blades can be adjusted later on. So the #windturbine can be adjusted to different wind speeds and braked if necessary. I printed the worms of the worm gears with my SLA printer. The remaining parts were printed from PLA. I hope you can see on the CAD drawings where the part will be installed later. 🙂⁣

🇩🇪 Gestern habe ich die restlichen beiden Getriebe und Motoren in die Nabe von #WinDIY_2 montiert. Darüber soll später der Anstellwinkel der Flügel eingestellt werden. So kann die #windturbine verschiedenen Windgeschwindigkeiten angepasst und bei Bedarf gebremst abgebremst werden. Die Schnecken der Schneckengetriebe habe ich mit meinem SLA Drucker gedruckt. Die restlichen Teile wurden aus PLA gedruckt. Ich hoffe man erkennt auf den CAD Zeichnungen wo das Teil später verbaut wird. 🙂⁣

🇬🇧 Unfortunately I had forgotten a data line between the LEDs on my PCB for the #pxlDigit_24mini. So I had to retrofit this connection. For this I used a single strand from a flexible 1.5mm2 cable. 😎⁣

🇬🇧 I recently got the (more) smaller sister of the WS2812 RGB LED. So far I have used the SK6812 with an edge length of 2x2mm as the smallest LED. This is also the LED that I use for the #pxlDigit-24mini PCB. The new SK6805 is a bit smaller with 1.5x1.5mm edge length. Let's see what someone can build out of it. 😎⁣

🇩🇪 Vor kurzem habe ich die (noch) kleinere Schwester der WS2812 RGB LED bekommen. Bisher habe ich als kleinste LED die SK6812 mit einer Kantenlänge von 2x2mm verwendet. Das ist auch die LED die ich für das #pxlDigit-24mini PCB verwende. Die SK6805 ist mit 1.5x1.5mm Kantenlänge aber noch etwas kleiner. Mal sehen was man daraus so schönes bauen kann. 😎⁣

🇬🇧 A small detail from one of my side projects: In this one I use the power delivery features of a USB-C connection to supply the circuit with up to 100W. For this purpose, the connected Power Delivery power supply unit can be configured via the USB-C cable in such a way that it increases the voltage up to 20V. This is good to supply power-hungry consumers, but bad if you also have to supply a microcontroller with this voltage. These mostly run with 5V or 3.3V. So that I can generate this independently of the input voltage, I installed a TPS62175 on the PCB. This step-down converter can regulate voltages from up to 28V to the desired voltage (set via a voltage divider). It is therefore ideal for supplying small consumers with the right voltage. 🙂⁣

🇬🇧 A few months ago I started to build a lam

🇬🇧 A few months ago I started to build a lamp. Unfortunately you can't buy this lamp in Europe, which is why a friend asked me if I could not build it. On the pictures you can see the end result, the intermediate steps and the CAD planning.⁣
A 24V LED strip is built into the lamp. The light color can be set from warm white to cold white and the entire brightness can be set using a radio remote control. The control electronics are built into the 3D printed stand. The diffuser consists of a 3mm thick (50mm diameter) acrylic glass tube. I bent the frame out of a 15mm copper tube and then painted it matt black. Do you like it? 🙂⁣

🇩🇪 Vor ein paar Monaten hatte ich den (nach-)bau einer Lampe begonnen. Leider kann man diese Lampe in Europa nicht kaufen, weshalb mich eine Freundin gefragt hatte ob ich sie nicht nachbauen könnte.⁣
Auf den Bildern seht Ihr das Endresultat, die Zwischenschritte und die CAD Planung. ⁣
In der Lampe ist ein 24V LED Streifen verbaut. Über eine Funkfernbedienung kann die Lichtfarbe von Warmweiß zu Kaltweiß und auch die gesamte Helligkeit eingestellt werden. Die Steuerungselektronik ist dabei im 3D Gedruckten Standfuß verbaut. Der Diffusor besteht aus einem 3mm dicken (50mm Durchmesser) Acrylglasrohr. Das Gestell habe ich aus einem 15mm Kupferrohr gebogen und dann matt-schwarz lackiert. 🙂⁣

🇬🇧 Small sneak peak on one of my test projects and how I solve the "component on the bottom side and apply solder paste on the top"-problem: The stupid thing about boards that are assembled on both sides is that you cannot put a stencil on the second side as soon as there are components on the first side. Due to the components on the underside, the PCB is of course no longer flat. : / To solve the problem I printed a frame for the #buttonBoard PCB in which the partially assembled PCB can be inserted. This frame is 6.4mm high, exactly the thickness of four standard circuit boards (1.6mm). With a corresponding number of circuit boards around it, the stencil can be applied as usual and the PCB can be equipped with soldering paste.⁣
To further simplify (and improve) the application of the soldering paste, I'm currently testing another cool idea that I saw on YouTube a few months ago: A small box to which you can connect a vacuum cleaner. When this is switched on, the circuit boards and the stencil can be placed on the top of it. The advantage is that the circuit board and the stencil are held in position by the negative pressure and at the same time the stencil is pulled directly onto the PCB ocer the whole surface. Do you get what I mean? 😂 🙂⁣

🇬🇧 The fully assembled circuit board of the # pxlDigit_24mini has been lying in my desk for a few days already. This board provided by @PCBway is the small version of my # pxlDigit_24 twenty-four-segment display. This means that not only numbers but also letters can be displayed.⁣
For this purpose, I installed 96 WS2812 LEDs in a 2x2mm housing on the circuit board. They are controlled by an ESP32 Wrover B. Thanks to this, ESPEasy can also be installed on the ESP32 and you could also use the display to inform about events in your #smarthome. 🙂⁣

🇩🇪 Schon seit ein paar Tagen liegt die fertig augebaute Platine des #pxlDigit_24mini bei mir rum.⁣
Diese von @PCBway zur Verfügung gestellte Platine ist die kleine Version meiner #pxlDigit_24 vierundzwanzig-segment Anzeige.⁣
Damit lassen sich nicht nur Ziffern sondern auch Buchstaben darstellen.⁣
Dazu habe ich auf der Platine 96 WS2812 LEDs im 2x2mm Gehäuse verbaut. Angesteuert werden die über einen ESP32 Wrover B.⁣
So lässt sich zum Beispiel auch ESPEasy auf dem ESP32 installieren und ihr könnte die Anzeige auch nutzen um über Ereignisse in Eurem #smarthome zu informieren. 🙂⁣

🇬🇧 You can see the result of my (still slightly limited) project time in the pictures: A simple housing to use the #ButtonBoard as an IOT / SmartHome remote control. 🙂 I am experimenting with different housings. In the shown one a ButtonBoard and an #oled can be installed in the upper shell. So you can not only trigger actions but also display values. Practical, for example, to set the temperature of the heater. The upper shell shown can be combined with different backshells. So you can either install a 1000mAh or a 3000mAh battery. I also described the whole thing in more detail in one of my last YouTube videos. You can find the link to it in my story or in the story highlights. 🙂⁣

🇩🇪 Das Ergebnis der (noch etwas limitierten) Projektzeit sehr Ihr auf den Bildern: Ein einfaches Gehäuse um das #ButtonBoard als IOT/SmartHome Fernbedienung nutzen zu können. 🙂 Dabei experimentiere ich mit verschiedenen Gehäusen. In der gezeigten Oberschale lassen sich sowohl das ButtonBoard als auch ein #oled verbauen. So kann man nicht nur Aktionen auslösen sondern auch Werte anzeigen lassen. Praktisch um zum Beispiel die Temperatur der Heizung einzustellen. Die gezeigte Oberschale lässt sich mit unterschiedlich dicken Rückseiten kombinieren. So kann man entweder einen 1000mAh oder einen 3000mAh Akku verbauen. Ich habe das ganze auch nochmal etwas ausführlicher in einem meiner letzten YouTube Videos beschrieben. Ihr findet den Link dazu in meiner Story oder den Storyhighlights. 🙂⁣

🇬🇧 At the moment I'm quite busy, but I had time for a little test of the modular structure of the #buttonBoard PCB. 🙂 In the photos you can see the two parts of the buttonBoard built into the aluminum back wall from one of my other projects. For this I screwed the buttonBoard in 3D printed brackets on the rear aluminum plate. The small, detachable part of the buttonBaord PCB contains the USB-C connector and the USB serial converter. This PCB is then connected to the main part of the button board via individual lines. This is housed in a place where the buttons are easier to reach. In this way, the buttons can be easily positioned regardless of where the USB-C port is connected. Larger power consumers can be supplied with the help of the solder pads without long cable routes from the USB-C port. A video will follow soon to explain this more in detail. 🙂⁣

🇬🇧 The first small step forward in my fotoPhrame project consists of a matching 3D printed frame. (Yes, I should have cleaned the print bed beforehand. 😩) The display can be inserted and fixed in it. The #RaspberryPi Zero W2 and the driver board are then screwed onto the lid. The search for a suitable HDMI cable was a bit adventurous. But more on that later. 🙂 The entire display should later be supplied with energy via the Raspberry Pi Zero. But now it's time to start with the software. Any suggestions as to what is suitable for displaying images in a slide show style? 🙂⁣

(Ja ich hätte das Druckbett vorher reinigen sollen. 😩) Darin lässt sich das Display einlegen und fixieren. Der #RaspberryPi Zero W2 und das Treiberboard werden dann auf dem Deckel verschraubt. Die Suche nach einem passenden HDMI Kabel war etwas abenteuerlich. Dazu aber später mehr. 🙂 Das ganze Display soll später über den Raspberry Pi Zero mit Energie versorgt werden. Nun geht es aber erstmal an die Software. Irgendwelche Vorschläge was sich eignet um Bilder in einer Diashow darzustellen? 🙂⁣

🇬🇧 Over the past few weeks I have tried various uses for the ButtonBoard. I tested different housings for this. So you can use the ButtonBoard as a remote control with 12 buttons and four side buttons with or without a display. The OLED can simply be connected to the @Qwiic port via I2C.⁣
For another project I want to use the ButtonBoard as a control panel. To do this, the circuit board can be separated at the foreseen point. In this way, the PCB with the keyboard can be positioned regardless of the location of the USB-C port. I still found a few small bugs and opportunities for improvement. The next revision is waiting to be ordered from @pcbway. 🙂⁣

🇩🇪 Die letzten Wochen habe ich verschiedene Einsatzzwecke für das ButtonBoard ausprobiert. Dazu habe ich verschiedene Gehäuse getestet. So kann man das ButtonBoard als Fernbedienung mit 12 Tasten und vier Seitentasten mit oder ohne Display benutzen. Das OLED kann dazu einfach per I2C mit dem @Qwiic port verbunden werden.⁣
Für ein anderes Projekt will ich das ButtonBoard als Bedienpanel nutzen. Dazu lässt sich die Platine an der vorhergesehenen Stelle trennen. So kann das PCB mit den Tastan unabhängig vom Ort des USB-C Anschluss positioniert werden. Ein paar kleine Bugs und Verbesserungsmöglichkeiten habe ich noch gefunden. Die naechste Revision wartet also schon darauf bei @pcbway bestellt zu werden. 🙂⁣

🇬🇧 The new RaspberryPi Zero reminded me of an old project that I had lying around. For this I basically "only" have to connect a display to the RaspberryPi, pack the whole thing nicely and configure it accordingly. The problem was that the display has a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels. This is well above the officially supported resolution for the RaspberyPi Zero. Only from the RaspberryPi 4 onwards, displays with a resolution higher than 1920x1080 (FullHD) are officially supported. So on the first RaspberryPi Zero I couldn't operate the display. That's why it had disappeared in a box for some time. Fortunately, things are different with the new RaspberryPi Zero. 😍 Even if it is not officially supported, you can also control these displays with the correct configuration of the "hdmi_timing" option. Out of spec, of course, but it's been going pretty well so far. 🙂 I will soon post everything you need on my blog Nerdiy.de. 🤓⁣

🇬🇧 Thanksgiving can come: The LiPo harvest was good. 😎 Picking up 10 notebook batteries revealed 40 (reasonably) fit #18650 LiPo cells. Unfortunately, 18 cells no longer looked so tasty and were either completely dead (0V) or well below the final discharge voltage of a LiPo cell. I used a charger for charging, which also measures the internal resistance and the absorbed charge of the cell during the charging process. A discharge function would have been practical here so that the charging/discharging efficiency could be measured. This is how the feature wish list for my dream LiPo charger was created. Guess what is now in the top third of my project list. 😬⁣

🇩🇪 Thanksgiving kann kommen: Die zurückliegende LiPo-Ernte war gut. 😎 Das Zerpflücken von 10 Notebook Akkus hat 40 (einigermaßen) fitte #18650 LiPo-Zellen zum Vorschein gebracht. 18 Zellen sahen leider nicht mehr so lecker aus und waren entweder ganz tot (0V) oder deutlich unter der Entladeschlussspannung einer LiPo-Zelle. Zum Aufladen habe ich ein Ladegeraet verwendet, welches während des Ladevorgangs auch den Innenwiderstand und die aufgenommene Ladung der Zelle misst. Praktisch wäre hier noch eine Entladefunktion gewesen, sodass man den Lade-/Entlade-Wirkungsgrad messen könnte. So ist nebenbei auch die Feature-Wunschliste für mein Traum-LiPo-Ladegeraet entstanden. Ratet mal was jetzt im oberen Drittel auf meiner Projektliste steht. 😬⁣

🇬🇧 The back of the buttonBoard PCB houses the larger components like the #ESP32 Wrover B, the button cell holder and the micro SD card slot. The LiPo charging circuit is also located on the detachable PCB area. It takes over the protection and charging of the connected LiPo cell. In addition, if a USB cable is connected, it ensures that the power supply is switched from the LiPo to the USB-C connection.⁣

Auf dem abtrennbaren PCB Bereich ist außerdem die LiPo Ladeschaltung untergebracht. Sie übernimmt den Schutz und das Laden der angeschlossenen LiPo Zelle.⁣

🇬🇧 I want to use the ButtonBoard PCB for several projects. One use is a WiFi-enabled remote control. So you can send messages via MQTT and Co to your own #smartHome at the push of a button. Thanks to the WS2812 LEDs next to each button, keystrokes can be optically confirmed or settings can be visualized. For example, you could set an RGB lamp in your SmartHome and see which color is currently set on the remote control. To save energy, the ESP32 can be switched to standby mode after a certain period of time. Thanks to the integrated ADXL345, it is woken up when you touch or move the remote control and is therefore quickly available and connected to your WiFi again. 🙂⁣

🇩🇪 Das ButtonBoard PCB will ich für mehrere Projekte nutzen. Ein Einsatzzweck ist eine WiFi-fähige Fernbedienung. So kann man auf Tastendruck Nachrichten per MQTT und Co an das eigene #smartHome versenden. Dank der WS2812 LEDs neben jedem Button können Tastendrücke optisch bestätigt oder auch Einstellungen visualisiert werden. Zum Beispiel könnte man so eine RGB Lampe im SmartHome einstellen und auch an der Fernbedienung sehen welche Farbe aktuell eingestellt ist. Um Energie zu sparen kann der ESP32 nach einer gewissen Zeit in den standBy Modus geschickt werden. Dank des integrierten ADXL345 wird dieser dann schon bei Berührung bzw. bewegen der Fernbedienung aufgeweckt und ist somit schnell verfügbar und mit dem eigenen WiFi verbunden. 🙂⁣

🇬🇧 On the pictures you can see the current status, the rendering and a photo of the original of a lamp that I am building for a friend. Unfortunately, zhis lamp is not available for sale in Europe.
So: build it yourself. 😌
The copper pipe is painted black. A cold/warm white LED strip is installed in the 50mm acrylic glass tube. I just printed the base from black filament. The base also houses the electronics, so that the brightness and light color of the lamp can be easily adjusted by remote control. 🙂

🇩🇪 Auf den Bildern seht ihr den aktuellen Stand, das Rendering und ein Foto vom Original einer Lampe die ich für eine Freundin baue. Leider gibt es diese in Europa nicht zu kaufen. Also: Selber bauen. 😌
Das Kupferrohr wird noch schwarz lackiert. Im 50mm Acrylglasrohr wird ein Kalt-/Warm-Weiß-LED Streifen verbaut. Den Sockel habe ich einfach aus schwarzem Filament gedruckt. Darin kommt auch die Elektronik unter, sodass sich die Helligkeit und Lichtfarbe der Lampe bequem per Fernbedienung einstellen lässt. 🙂

🇬🇧 You can see the first results of the prototype test for the ButtonBoard in the pictures. As the name suggests, there are 12 normal buttons and four side buttons installed on the PCB. The 12 normal buttons can also be illuminated via the associated WS2812 2020 LEDs. The buttons are read out via the PCF8575 I2C port expander. A few other components can also be installed, but more on that later. 😌 As always, everything is built on a PCB by @pcbway. 😍⁣

🇩🇪 Die ersten Ergebnisse vom Prototyptest für das ButtonBoard seht ihr auf den Bildern. Wie der Name schon erahnen lässt sind auf dem PCB 12 normale und vier seitliche Taster verbaut. Die 12 normalen Taster können außerdem über die zugehörigen WS2812 2020 LEDs beleuchtet werden. Die 16 Taster werden über den PCF8575 I2C Port expander ausgelesen. 🇬🇧 Here are a few first impressions of one of my new projects. Perhaps you will already figure out what it should be. 🙂 Part of it is the rotating platform visible in the pictures. For this I use two helical gears. The platform is driven by a standard 5V stepper motor. I am supported in this project by @turmberg3d. Thanks to their melting aids, the melting of threaded inserts is now much easier than with the simple soldering iron tip. 🙂⁣

Dazu verwende ich zwei Stirnräder mit Schrägverzahnung. Angetrieben wird die Plattform von einem Standard 5V Schrittmotor. Bei diesem Projekt werde ich von @turmberg3d unterstützt. Dank deren Einschmelzhilfen gelingt das Einschmelzen von Gewindeeinsätzen nun wesentlich leichter als nur mit der einfachen Lötkolbenspitze. 🙂⁣

🇬🇧 A few weeks ago I posted some initial information about the sensorPhalanx PCB. I want to use this PCB with numerous light sensors for my solar powered weather station. Of course, I also need a suitable MCU to evaluate the data. This (#ESP23 [of course]) is placed on the solarSens PCB shown. In addition to the MCU, there are numerous other components installed on it. These include a #GSM or #LoRa radio module, a solar MPPT charger, a possibility to use the connected solar cell as a #pyranometer, a stepper motor driver for the correct alignment of the solar cell and many other features. You can get a rough overview on the pictures shown. 🙂⁣

🇬🇧 Thanks to Power Delivery power supplies, it is now possible to charge cell phones, laptops and more with high power. Various voltage and current values can be set for this purpose. And all of this via a USB-C connection. 😎 For one of my future projects, I have to distribute energy over several modules. That's why I want to work with a higher (but still harmless) voltage. So perfect to use the advantages of a Power Delivery power supply. The only downside: You have to actively communicate with the PD power supply to request higher voltages and currents. Only then higher powers than the standard USB powers will be activated. To test this, I built a small test board with the FUSB302 Power Delivery controller which can communicate with an ESP32 via I2C. What do you think of it? "Cool feature" or "A simple 12V power supply would have done it too!". 😂⁣

Anemosens is a 3d printable anemometer. I use it as a windsensor for #WinDIY_2 a 3D printable wind turbine. Of course, it can also be used for other purposes (e.g. weather station).

Anemosens - A 3D printed wind sensor / anemometer

I hope you can see how the alignment of the wind direction sensor is passed on to the sensor of #Anemosens (a 3D printed #Anemometer). 🙂⁣
The wind vane is connected to a bracket using an M3x50 screw. A magnet with a diametrical magnetization sits in this holder. This means that the north and south poles are not on the top and bottom of the magnet, as is the case with most magnets, but on the opposite side of the shell of the magnet/cylinder. The sensor can then measure the orientation of the north and south poles. 😎 I printed all parts with my SLA printer so that only a few additional mechanical components are required. 😌⁣

In the meantime I have also updated the scrolling text function in the #pxlBlck plugin. 😎 Thanks to the 24 segments of the #pxlDigit, numbers and characters can also be shown as scrolling text on the display. The font- and background color, brightness, speed and of course the text can be set individually. The scrolling text can then also be triggered by #MQTT, for example. 🙂

If you should have asked yourself by chance why there is nothing new about the slip ring here, I am happy to introduce you to the fail of the week. 🙂 ⁣
Unfortunately I used a 6mm thick brass tube for the axis of the slip ring. Not really a problem. ⁣
But unfortunately, I also used a ball bearing with an inner diameter of 6mm. Unfortunately, the brass tube does not fit into the ball bearing now. 😩 That's why I've been sitting here for a few days and dragging the brass tube from time to time until it is hopefully thin enough to fit into the ball bearing. 🤓⁣
I think that was the friendly reminder that you shouldn't skip the sluggish lessons at school about shaft fits. 😬⁣

Fail at designing a 3D printed slip ring for WinDIY_2

Unfortunately, the 276mm wide housing for four #pxlDigit_24 cannot be easily printed on a normal 3D printer. That's why I designed an alternative housing. The individual digits can be pre-assembled and then screwed onto a bracket. In this way, even more than four digits can be daisy chained one after the other, for example to display five-digit numbers or longer words directly. You can see the start animation on the video. After the start, the time is retrieved from an #NTP server via the WiFi connection of the #ESP32
