Recently I had the problem that my MagicMirror did not run properly after two days at the latest. For some reason the screen stayed black and it was not obvious at first glance how to fix this problem.
\nAs a provisional solution only a restart of the RaspberryPI's helped for the time being.<\/p>\n

But since I didn't get around to finding the cause of the problem for the next few days, I needed a \"temporary\" solution.
\nBecause restarting the RaspberryPi every day is annoying - especially when you can automate this process.<\/p>\n

As a permanent solution for now, it helped to let the RaspberryPi reboot automatically every night.<\/p>\n

How to do this and what you need to consider is described in the following article.<\/p>\n

Log in to the RaspberryPi via SSH<\/h2>\r\n

To start, you must first log in to the Rasp Pi with Putty via SSH. How to do this is in the article RaspberryPi - Control the RaspberryPi via SSH<\/strong><\/em><\/a> described.<\/p>\r\n

After entering your username and password you can enter the first commands.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Set up automatic restart<\/h2>\n

So that the RaspberryPi starts automatically at the desired time you have to edit the crontab. The \"crontab\" is a table (hence the \"tab\") in which all cronjobs - activities that have to be executed regularly - are entered. To view and edit it, just enter the following command:<\/p>\n

sudo crontab -e<\/pre>\n

After you have entered the command, the system will ask you which text editor you want to use to edit the crontab file. Here you select \"2nd\". Enter \"2\" and confirm this by pressing \"Enter\".<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In the file that opens, use the arrow keys to navigate to the very end of the file.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

There you enter the following line:<\/p>\n
0 2 * * \/sbin\/shutdown -r now<\/pre>\n
You set the time via the information before the actual restart command.<\/p>\n
In this case (0 2 * * *) the following command (in this case the restart but it works also with other commands) is executed at the zero minute and at the second hour of each day.

\n| +--- day (1 - 31)

The changes are then saved and the RaspberryPi should now restart automatically - at the specified time.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
