When looking for inexpensive WLAN sockets to control normal consumers, sooner or later you stumble across the \"Sonoff S26\". This is one of (if not the) cheapest WLAN socket outlet I know.<\/p>\n

Its only disadvantage is the firmware. This is not very universal and the range of functions is limited. The solution to all these problems is the alternative firmware \"Tasmota\". It adds all the functions to the Sonoff S26 that are missing from the standard firmware.<\/p>\n

How you can proceed to flash the \"Sonoff S26\" with the Tasmota firmware is described in the following article.<\/p>\n

Open the housing<\/h2>\n

In order to transfer the Tasmota firmware to the ESp8266 of the socket, you must first attach the connecting cables to which you can then connect the programming adapter.<\/p>\n

To do this, open the socket housing by loosening the three screws on the bottom.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

You can then lift off the lid at the bottom...<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

and disassemble the housing into its individual parts. This also gives you access to the control board of the socket.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Prepare programming connections<\/h2>\n

In order to be able to connect the programming adapter to the ESP8266 on the control board, you now have to solder a few connecting cables to the control board.<\/p>\n

The control board is the board that protrudes laterally from the large board and is only connected to it via three solder connections.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

There are several small solder pads on the control board. To be able to connect the programming adapter, you must solder connection lines to the solder pads \"3V3\", \"GND\", \"ETX\" and \"ERX\".<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

To do this, tin the soldering pads as shown. This makes soldering the connecting cables easier in the next step.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Now solder the connecting cables to the soldering pads. Make sure that there are no short circuits (connections) between the soldering pads.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Connect programming interface<\/h2>\n

Now it's time to connect the programming adapter to the control board. There are many programming adapters, which is why their appearance often differs.<\/p>\n

However, the PINs labeled \"3V3\", \"GND\", \"TXD\" and \"RXD\" are always present. These are the connections you need to connect the programming adapter to the control board.<\/p>\n

To do this, connect the Dupont cables to the four connection PINs \"3V3\", \"GND\", \"RX\" and \"TX\" of the programming adapter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Dupont cables must now be connected to the connection cables that you have previously soldered to the control board. You must connect the \"3V3\" and \"GND\" contacts to their respective counterparts. This means \"3V3\" on the programming adapter with \"3V3\" on the control board and \"GND\" on the programming adapter with \"GND\" on the control board. You must connect the \"RX\" and \"TX\" contacts exactly \"crosswise\". To do this, connect \"RX\" on the programming adapter to \"ETX\" on the control board and \"TX\" on the programming adapter to \"ERX\" on the control board.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Flash Tasmota firmware<\/h2>\n

After you have connected your programming adapter to the control board, you can now flash the Tasmota firmware. This and the setting options are detailed in the article Tasmota - Flash firmware<\/strong><\/em><\/a> described.<\/p>\n

Below is a configuration that should work for the Sonoff S26. Of course, you still have to configure the access data for your WLAN and, if necessary, the access data for your MQTT server.<\/p>\n

After you have transferred the Tasmota firmware to the socket, you still have to configure it correctly. To do this, open the configuration website by entering the IP address of the connected socket in your browser address bar.
