HowTo: Node Red – Set up a “welcome-boost” for the heater on entering the apartment

Especially non-technology enthusiastic roommates are usually skeptical about this whole SmartHome thing. Constantly questions such as “But why do you need that?” or “And that’s so important now that it works automatically?”. If you then list the known benefits and the techie muffle is still not convinced that often has a frustrating effect on the SmartHome enthusiasts. Then it’s time to create facts. A feature that you will convince at least the shivering people among the technology moaners is the automatic “welcome boost” of the heating system.

This will welcome the potentially shivering technical muffle after entering the living area automatically with a warm apartment. Once the SmartHome detects that a resident has entered the – still cold – living area, a signal is automatically sent to the radiators, which turns them on for a certain time at the highest level in order to increase the temperature in the entire living area as quickly as possible.

Log in to the NodeRed configuration interface

Before you can edit your NodeRed configuration you must - if activated - first log in to the NodeRed configuration interface.

View of the login screen. Here you have to enter the login details that you entered during the configuration of the login. Information about this can be found in the article NodeRed - User Login Setup.

Install necessary nodes

To take this example, you need to import the node code below. In order for the automatic boost to work with your presence detection, you must replace the injection node with your presence detection. As soon as a new presence is detected, this must trigger the function node. This sends a signal to all radiator thermostats connected to the configured MAX!
