HowTo: Install programs - an example

In order to make the series of spoon articles a little more complete, I would like to briefly explain in this article how to proceed with installing programs and what needs to be taken into account.

The ArduinoIDE is installed as an example. This program, like pretty much every other program, is installed using a step-by-step wizard.

So if you install a program other than the ArduinoIDE, the installation process will most likely be very similar.

Organization of the installation file

Before you can install a program, you will of course first need the installation package for the respective program. You can get this on your computer via data carrier (USB sticks, CD, DVD, etc.) or via the Internet.

In this case, we will download the ArduinoIDE installation package from the Internet.
To do this, go to the download page for the ArdunioIDE: https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software

The appearance of this page may change over time. Especially the version number of the Arduino IDE. Under “Windows Installer…” you will find the download link to the installation package for Windows operating systems.
On the page that now opens, click on “Just Download” to start the download. There is also the opportunity to donate to this open source software here.

Start installation

To start installing the ArduinoIDE, open the folder where you downloaded the installation package.

Opens the installation package with a double click.
After starting the installation package, you will be guided through the installation step by step. First you have to accept the “License Agreement”. You must accept this if you want to use the software. After clicking on “I Agree” you will be taken to the next step.
In the next step you can choose which “options” are added during the installation. Additional drivers and desktop shortcuts can also be installed.
In this step you can choose where the program should be installed. In most cases you can leave this setting as is.
The installation then starts and shows you the current progress with a progress bar. Depending on the size of the program, installation takes a few seconds to several minutes.
After a short waiting period, the installation is completed and you can end the installation wizard by clicking on “Close”.

After the installation is complete you can use the program.

Have fun with the project

I hope everything worked as described for you. If not or you have questions or suggestions please let me know in the comments. I will then add this to the article if necessary.
Ideas for new projects are always welcome. 🙂

PS Many of these projects - especially the hardware projects - cost a lot of time and money. Of course I do this because I enjoy it, but if you think it's cool that I share the information with you, I would be happy about a small donation to the coffee fund. 🙂
